Abstract: The Likelihood Ratio Test (LRT) process associated with the absence of a gene on a chromosome is studied. The asymptotic distribution of the supremum of the LRT process, i.e., the LRT over the whole chromosome, is established. Location-scale families and two recombination models are considered. The LRT is shown to be asymptotically the supremum of the square of two different interpolated Gaussian processes, depending on the recombination model. The maximum of these asymptotic processes can be easily computed using statistics on genetic markers and their Ratio. Moreover, the LRT is proved to be robust to the recombination model. Results are generalized to location-scale families, extending previous results obtained only under the Gaussian setting. A new variable selection method based on the studied empirical processes and the Lasso is presented, with rates of convergence established. Results are illustrated on simulated data.
