Title: Detecting communities of authors using clique relaxations in large bibliographic databases

Abstract: The network of authors in the Web of Science bibliographic database, containing approximately 56,000,000 publications, is analyzed to detect communities on the induced authors graph. Scalable algorithms using clique relaxations are evaluated for their capabilities, runtime, and performance. Uncovered differences in publication culture across disciplines and the correlation between co-authorship and publication record are discussed.
