Abstract: Alternative composite designs for Response Surface Methodology are presented for the efficient estimation of full second-order models with reduced experimental effort. The proposed designs combine orthogonal structure in the factorial and axial components to improve statistical efficiency while retaining practical flexibility in run size and construction. One class of designs integrates definitive screening designs, orthogonal matrices, and block-orthogonal axial components, producing stronger D-values and improved robustness compared to standard composite alternatives. A second class combines Hadamard or fractional-factorial blocks with orthogonal Latin hypercube axial points, preserving coded-scale interpretability and supporting evaluation through different criteria. The designs provide competitive multi-criterion performance and offer practical alternatives to classical composite designs when the main objective is to balance experimental economy, precision of estimation, and overall model quality.
