Abstract: The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, one of ``Memory of the World'', has a very high value as a historical record of chronicle across the whole Joseon Dynasty from 1392 to 1910. The Annals cover major cultural, economic, social political events in the corresponding reign of each king. We analyze Yesong dispute, a major political conflict between two parties (Nam-in and Seo-in) with cultural issues during King Hyeonjong using the Annals. On the surface, it was a matter related to funeral apparel, but in fact the dispute was about the power conflict between the two political parties. We reconstruct the networks of two parties and identify political communities and their central figures with communities detection algorithms. In particular, we focus on two Nam-ins turned to Seo-ins and show how the network around them has been changed during the Yesong dispute period and compare the results with historical records.
