Title: A personal journey into mixture modelling

Abstract: The focus is on a personal journey into mixture modelling. We start by considering the initial industry-based problems that ultimately resulted in my research endeavors into mixture modeling. We continue by highlighting my involvement in selected research papers, conference presentations and post-graduate student projects that address some of the challenges faced in model-based clustering and classification applications. Both mixture of distributions and mixture of regressions are considered. To conclude, an overview of current research projects focusing on non-parametric mixture modeling and feature selection is given. Finally, some thoughts on future research are presented.
